Alpine Winter Wedding in Morzine – Kate and Ian’s Story
As a keen snowboarder and downhill mountain biker, Ian had been visiting Morzine for many years. After introducing his fiancee Kate to the town, when the time came to tie the knot they both knew exactly where they wanted to do it.
Of All The Alpine Towns To Get Married In, Why Morzine?
When Ian brought Kate out to Morzine she instantly fell in love with the relaxed and friendly vibe around the town. Blown away by the exceptional skiing in the surrounding mountains and the breathtaking beauty at Lake Montriond, there really was no other option for their destination wedding.
With so many good memories of past holidays in the mountains combined with the numerous options for eating, drinking and just generally having a good time, the couple knew Morzine could deliver everything required for their perfect wedding. Neither of the couple’s parents had ever been to the Alps and they wanted to share with them, and all their closest friends and family, a place that is so special to them as a couple.
Location Sorted, Now To Find The Perfect Venue
Kate and Ian began their search for the perfect wedding venue in Morzine online. It didn’t take long before the couple came across a plethora of 5* reviews of weddings at The Farmhouse.
The couple was impressed and decided to contact the hotel. After speaking with manager James, they had a great feeling and decided to make a visit.
Kate and Ian flew out to Morzine for a week to finalize their plans and were absolutely blown away. In Kate’s own words “ I honestly cannot believe there is a more beautiful venue anywhere in the World that offers the exceptional service of The Farmhouse.
The traditional feel really suited us and our taste, but at the same time, it was modern and luxurious. We felt like royalty for the duration of our stay, and absolutely nothing was any trouble at all. The food was exceptional and the venue was stunning”.
The Perfect Attire For The Perfect Day
Kate was adamant she wanted to get married in her snow boots so finding the right dress was going to be tricky. Kate eventually chose a Pronovias Couture wedding dress bought from ‘The Dress Place’ in Nottingham. She wanted something classy but with a little bit of fun, and ideally with quite a large skirt to go over the snow boots.
Kate tried many dresses and after much trial and error, finally found the perfect fit. Kate absolutely fell in love with the dress as soon as she saw it, but the train was enormous! There was then a huge amount of alteration needed to remove some of the length without compromising the shape and design.
After a fair amount of painstaking work from a fabulous seamstress at the bridal shop, she had her dream dress. Kate also found a beautiful but simple hair accessory from Liberty in Love and was now able to get married in her snow boots!
Finding the right dresses for the bridesmaids was equally complicated. In the end they went with a navy and white theme to compliment Ian’s suit choice and because it would look beautiful against the snow. However, finding a bridesmaid dress in navy that would cover snow boots and withstand the walk through snow was not an easy task. Kate wanted a netted skirt for the girls and eventually found something perfect from Chi-Chi London and bought their shrugs from Monsoon.
Ian knew he wanted to wear a blue suit and has always been a fan of the cut from Hugo Boss. He decided on a navy blue suit along with shirt, shoes and cufflinks all from Hugo Boss. Wanting to stand out from his best men and ushers, they kept to the navy blue theme but wore individual suits.
The couple’s 3 year old son was the ring bearer who looked dapper in his little blue 3 piece suit to match his Dad. Their baby girl wore a white faux fur snowsuit to keep to the theme and their older daughter wore a beautiful princess dress and snow boots to match her mum!
The Ceremony
The couple chose to hold the ceremony on the shores of the beautiful Lake Montriond with the reception, dinner and party back at The Farmhouse. The perfect Alpine wedding experience for their cherished friends and family.
Although it was not a particularly snowy February in the village, higher up the valley at Lake Montriond, a winter wonderland awaited. The sun was shining and the day began with Dorrien, the owner of The Farmhouse, driving Kate and her father up to the lake in his beautiful car.
The service was written by Kay the celebrant who is something of a local wedding celebrity in Morzine. She worked with Kate and Ian to create the beautiful words that were read on the day. Unfortunately, she couldn’t deliver the service herself but her wonderful friend Karen stepped in.
The couple wanted the service to be intimate, and beautiful, and really make their guests feel special. However, they also wanted an element of fun. Local band Squid Lips who played at the reception also played at the lake, and there was a mulled wine pre ceremony drinks reception, and bubbles afterwards. They wanted to keep things fairly simple as the location was the wow factor, and they didn’t want to detract from the breathtaking scenery.
Back At The Farmhouse
Dorrien drove the newlyweds back to The Farmhouse and the festivities began. Bubbles and celebratory drinks awaited the guests upon their arrival at The Farmhouse before dinner was served in the beautiful dining room.
The tables were themed around places that the happy couple had visited and held dear in their hearts. A custom made table plan and place settings were made by one of Kate’s talented bridesmaids to cement the special locations theme.
First oysters were served as one of the couple’s first dates was at an oyster bar in New York. Next up was a Smoked salmon and crayfish tambale, followed by deconstructed Beef Bourguignon. The pescatarian guests were treated to lobster which, along with the fillet steak, definitely had the wow factor.
Fresh strawberries served with mascarpone cream, cracked black pepper and red wine syrup was served for dessert. The wedding cake was a stunning cheese cake provided by The Farmhouse.
The Party
Local band Squid Lips also played at the wedding reception. The couple described the band as “Exactly what we were looking for – a group of really good people, who were great fun, and created a fantastic music list that got everyone dancing. Nothing was too much trouble, they played exactly what we asked for at the lake, incorporated anything we asked for into the evening set, and they were brilliant!”

Don’t just take it from us, here’s what Kate and Ian had to say about their wedding experience at The Farmhouse: “We were so lucky to work with so many truly brilliant people who knew way more about the area and weddings than us! Morzine is a spectacular place to get married and there are many very experienced people who can make your dreams come true.
