The Perfect Outdoor Wedding In The Alps

James | November 3rd, 2021

Underwhelmed by the traditional wedding venue options back in the UK, Jon and Stephanie began to look further afield. The couple share a passion for the mountains and had previously visited Morzine many times for skiing holidays. They soon started to imagine themselves tying the knot in an alpine paradise.

Desiring more than just a regular wedding, the couple loved the idea of spending some real quality time with their nearest and dearest to celebrate the occasion. A few days in Morzine with all their friends and family with the main event being an outdoor wedding surrounded by the mountains became the dream plan.

The Search For The Perfect Wedding Venue

Once they had decided on a Morzine wedding, the couple knew they had to find the perfect venue for the big day. The Farmhouse was recommended to the couple by a good friend who knew the caterer. Stephanie and Jon are huge foodies, so that was important to them, and after checking out a few other venues in the area the decision was an easy one.

The beautiful views at The Farmhouse, it’s setting and close proximity to the centre of Morzine was perfect. Plus they were able to book all the guest rooms for their family meaning they had the run of the place for the weekend. After meeting with James, Dorrien and the rest of the team at The Farmhouse, they knew they’d get the level of attention to detail, yet personal and friendly service they were looking for.

As much as the couple love skiing, Stephanie couldn’t imagine getting married in the snow and they really wanted an outdoors ceremony so it was decided a summer wedding would suit best.

The  Wedding Attire

Stephanie wanted a simple but modern dress, and had long-admired Essense of Australia dress designs. She decided on something that was elegant, fitted and not too fussy. The long train provided a bit of drama, as well as the low back – it was her big day after all!

Jon went for a crisp blue suit – traditional, yet modern and simple. It was made and designed by a tailor the couple had met on a trip to Thailand!

Stephanie wanted the bridesmaids in shades of blue as it’s one of their favourite colours and suits everyone. It was important to her that the bridesmaids all liked their dresses, so she set a budget and let them choose their own long blue dress in a shade of their choice. Two of the bridesmaids lived abroad, so the first time they saw all 4 dresses together was the morning of the wedding!

It was fantastic how each dress suited the individual bridesmaid but that they also complemented each other perfectly. Relaxed wild flower bouquets from local florist The Floral Kitchen brought all the colours together.

Let The Celebrations Begin

The festivities began the day before the wedding. Jon and his friends took advantage of the adventurous nature of the local surroundings and went on an action packed canyoning trip. Stephanie and her bridesmaids had an equally enjoyable but slightly less dangerous experience with a beautiful yoga session led by local expert Polly.

The boutique chalet-style interior of The Farmhouse provided a beautiful setting for the dressing of the bride on the wedding day morning. The wedding breakfast took place under a canopy in the garden, which added to the rustic, outdoor theme of the day.

The Ceremony

Jon and Stephanie were desperate for an outdoors ceremony and luckily the rain just about held off (although there was a back-up plan with the lovely stretch tent). The wedding took place in The farmhouse garden with two banks of seating arranged in rows either side of the grassy aisle. The floral display and the views of the surrounding mountains provide the perfect alpine backdrop.

The couple put a lot of effort into making the ceremony personal. The celebrant was a close friend of Jon and Stephanie who happened to be an actress, performer and life coach – perfect for the job! She knew them inside out so was able to make all the content and stories so personal and relevant.

London-based musicians The Tonics played at the ceremony making it a musical affair and the guests enjoyed a sing along too. The band continued to play after the ceremony to accompany the reception creating a lovely relaxed ambiance to the whole affair.

The Food

Local catering experts Bon App Morzine provided the culinary delights for the day. Delicious canapes were served during the reception along with free flowing bubbles, wine and drinks. The canapes had a fun UK vs France theme and were enjoyed by all throughout the afternoon.

A fantastic sit down three course evening meal was served followed by homemade chocolates, coffees and liquors. The wedding cake was a real talking point amongst the guests as it was a stunning tower of the couple’s favourite cheeses from across the UK and France.

The Party

The Tonics, normally a duo from London added an extra piece for the occasion and the trio kicked the party off in style playing a mix of modern hits and crowd pleaser classics that got everyone up and dancing. Local Morzine legend Disco Stu followed The Tonics with a lively dj set that kept the party going long into the night.

The following day the team at The Farmhouse put on a fantastic BBQ allowing all the guests to come back together in a casual relaxed environment to reflect upon what was a magical day.
